WSL BIG WAVE EVENT Billabong Pico Alto Soon in Peru

The Billabong Pico Alto 2015 presented by Samsung Galaxy is right now in waiting period. The event will be released with the most possibles betters conditions of the sea of this famous Peruvian beach before August 31. The best surfers in the world come to Lima to run tsunamics waves.

The bravest surfers in the world are still on alert to arrive to Peru to compete in storm waves projected to have eight meters. This edition will distribute no less than US $ 50,000 in prize money, putting the Billabong Pico Alto as one of the seven most prestigious Big Wave contest in the world. The waiting period began on May 15 and runs until August 31.

Over thirty athletes, all of them currently in high level will be join in the Beach of Pico Alto of the town of Punta Hermosa, like Rothman Makuakai the ultimate winner, Greg Long, Grant Baker, Jamie Sterling and Ramon Navarro. The Peruvians Gabriel Villarán, Miguel Tudela, Carlos Mario Zapata and Toto Romagna are the local stars.

The Billabong Pico Alto presented by Samsung Galax has the support of Tag Heuer, Go Pro, Corona Extra and the Club Waikiki.

WSL ORGANIZE NOW THE BIG WAVE WORLD TOUR (BWWT)

Since last season, the WSL (World Surf League) took the organization and the control of the Big Wave World Tour. Reaffirming his compromise with the surf and other local sports, Peru Forus, owner of the operations of Billabong in Peru, reached an agreement with the WSL to ensure this date in the next years.

THE HISTORY OF BILLABONG PICO ALTO

The wave of Pico Alto was discovered on June 29, 1964 by a group of Peruvian surfers. The pioneers were Miguel Plaza, Pancho Joaquín Aramburu and Miro Quesada, who put the name to the beach. Seduced by her huge waves they decided to venture offshore to fight face to face with the sea.

Twelve years ago the dream of making an international championship in Pico Alto, to continue the tradition of Peru as a country that form future riders specialized in big wave in the world to distinguish the surf of the Inca´s Nation like in the decades of the 60's and 70.

In the past years it was a local event, but gradually won a worldwide interest. Since 2009 the Billabong Pico Alto is included with the famous Big Wave beach next to Pe'ahi, Todos Santos and Puerto Escondido. Now is considered a prestigious and longevity championship of big wave throughout the region.
