Crisis in the White House Press Office

The White House Press Office is in the midst of a crisis. Not only did Sarah Huckabee Sanders announce her resignation from her position as Press Secretary, but June 19th also marked the 100th day without an on-camera White House press briefing. This is unacceptable.

Between the hostility during Sanders’ tenure and the White House’s lack of transparency, the press pool has been unable to do their remarkably important work. Without on-camera briefings and cooperation from the administration, the American people aren’t receiving the information they deserve.

The United States’ standing has dropped from 45 to 48 out of 180 countries in RSF’s 2019 World Press Freedom Index, due in part to ongoing hostility from the Trump administration. We will not stop fighting for the right to information and a free press for all -- but the threats grow stronger every day.

Thank you for standing with us in support of Americans’ right to accessible and accurate information. We cannot win this fight without you.
