This initiative is part of the region's comprehensive tourism promotion and economic reactivation strategy.
The event was held in the PROMPERÚ auditorium, located on Jorge Basadre Avenue in the San Isidro district, and was attended by local and national authorities, representatives of the private sector with a presence in Áncash, tourism agencies, and journalists specializing in tourism, sports, and regional development.
This announcement comes at a particularly favorable time for the region, following Áncash's recognition last November as the World's Leading Adventure Destination. This award was presented at the 2025 Tourism Awards during a ceremony held as part of the 26th UN Tourism General Assembly, an event that brought together key leaders and authorities in the sector worldwide.
The 2026 sports calendar, developed collaboratively by the CCIT-Áncash, BKO Sports, ACA Sports, Viajeros, Doble Tracción, and various local stakeholders, aims to position Áncash—and Peru—as an international benchmark for high-level adventure tourism. The calendar includes 4x4 desert excursions, a triathlon in Huarmey, mountain biking competitions crossing the Andes Mountains, and challenging trail running races both in the Cordillera Blanca and along the coast. One of the highlights of the calendar will be the “3 Piedras & 100 Millas” event, a competition that will set a precedent in Peruvian sports by becoming the first 100-mile trail running race ever held in the country. Its route, starting in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range and finishing at the Pacific Ocean, presents unique technical and scenic conditions, with a predominantly negative elevation profile, making it a singular route on a global scale, capable of attracting elite runners and international enthusiasts.
This event represents a strategic opportunity to integrate Peru into the global trail running circuit, a constantly growing sports industry that drives specialized tourism, generates global visibility, and positions extreme nature destinations in high-value markets.
The scheduled competitions reflect a long-term development vision that uses sports as a tool to boost tourism, promote the local economy, generate employment, and strengthen regional identity.
The project's track record demonstrates concrete results. During the events held in 2025, over 4,400 sports tourists visited, more than 12,000 hotel beds were occupied, an economic impact of over 3 million soles was generated in local services, and national and international media exposure reached over 8 million people. An estimated 15% growth is projected for 2026.
The initiative is based on coordinated work among more than 10 local public institutions, sports promoters, and private companies, including Compañía Minera Antamina, supported by a professional team with over 25 years of experience in sports, tourism, and promotion. This collaborative governance model seeks to ensure the sustainability of the events, high organizational standards, and sustained international recognition, while also generating local pride and social cohesion.
